i'll be home for christmas

okay, so i'm going to pretend for one moment that i'm a diligent xangateer.

the show at canterbury on the 19th is still cancelled, but my parents are flying me home for christmas (very cool). this means that i'll be flying in on the 20th and leaving for rochester with ellen on the 26th or 27th, to fly from there back to seattle on the 29th. so this means that, ohioans, let's get together! i would love to catch up with some old friends to play some songs and talk and such. and as for you seattlites, what are you doing for new years?

take care, everyone.

mark your calendars, ladies and gentlemen

hey, i have a show scheduled for december at canterbury, in bellefontaine. on the nineteenth, i'll be playing a few songs and telling a few stories with my friends michael trew and lewis vanausdle the giant. they're the same guys i first went out to the coast with. great guys.

i think it should be a great time and a interesting way to catch up. it all starts around seven thirty, and the coffee/tea bar should be open.

mmm, yesterday was a good autumn day. we started off with a cheese pizza from olympic pizza. then after visiting artsy yardsales while wandering down to wallingford with my roommate aaron and his girlfriend katie, we lounged around the fire listening to music and waiting as the food cooked. we then drank down a huge pot of brandy wassail and feasted on rich potato soup, chips of manchego cheese and maple-glazed butternut squash, watching rushmore. as the evening died away, i talked to my friend, anna, on the phone for a while before falling asleep with a cat curled up in my arms.

it was a very good day.

two days of work under my belt now.

i'm now actively working at the convention center downtown, in the starbucks store up on the fourth floor. it's a pretty nice place and a great work environment. at lunch today i had a discussion about steinbeck with an usher named michael, probably in his mid-fifties. he told me about how he used to live down in the monterey area, and that he used to live in the old hamilton estate. john hamilton, steinbeck's grandfather on his mother's side, built that house. in East of Eden, the fictional "samuel hamilton" was modeled after real life john hamilton. if michael actually lived in that house, i don't know; maybe he's crazy or a liar. we'll see.

i'm still broke, which means eating in with friends instead of eating out. this is great! i really enjoy cooking, and i've started having friends over for a weekly "indian feast".

and the weather is beautiful. we're getting into the grey rainy season (all eight months of it), but that means that the land is turning green again and that the air feels fresh and sweet. it's a good time to brew some tea, ladle out some hot soup, and curl up by the fireplace with my cat arlo.
